SDMIC Program Strategies
Food Security and Livelihood Program
Objectives:
Smallholder farmers’ associations promote sustainable agriculture practices leading to increase in crop production.
Smallholder farmers’ associations create opportunities for saving, lending, and small-scale businesses leading to supplementary income.
SDMIC facilitates smallholder farmers to form associations, formulate bye-laws and create a decision-making structure. SDMIC builds the capacities of farmers to manage farmers’ associations, incorporate the Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLAs) mode, learn sustainable farming methods and adopt best farming practices for cultivation, and address the hunger, starvation, and food insecurity in the families. SDMIC’s sustainable food security and livelihood program has increased overall agricultural productivity and ensured food availability to the rural farmers in potential pockets.
Education Program
Objectives:
- Improve access to primary education by providing basic infrastructure, and promoting children’s clubs and school gardens.
- Train teachers on effective teaching and learning practices.
- Improve community participation by strengthening SMCs and PTAs
SDMIC constructs community schools in IDP and Mangateen camps to encourage and enable community participation in improving education access, quality, and safety for the poor and rural children. SDMIC’s teacher training institute generates young teachers as resource persons from the catchment areas. They adopt effective teaching methods and learning practices to facilitate children to learn and improve their academic performance. They ensure a quality education for the children through the education program.
Women and Youth Development Program
