DMI mission in PNG is to love and serve unconditionally the poor and the marginalized particularly, the vulnerable women; children and youths and help them to organize themselves to lead a decent life with dignity. In 2018, a small team of DMI sisters landed in Papua New Guinea (PNG) with its intention to reach out and empower the poor and marginalized through various socio-pastoral and development programs.DMI intervenes in the areas of Women development; Education; youth development; Livelihood and Community Organization to break the cycle of poverty and make self-sufficient and sustainable for the people.

Our vision is of a world where all people especially the oppressed and marginalized are empowered through education and development.

Key Programs

Women Empowerment

Gender equality and the empowerment of women are at the heart of DMI’s programs and intrinsic to its development approach. DMI promotes SHGs and Federations for the underprivileged women to govern and safeguard their rights. The main objective is to empower women to achieve social harmony through improvement of their economic and social wellbeing in order to lead a dignified life. DMI provides various capacity building and skill development programs for women to start income generation activities and cultivate savingsfor their sustainable life.

DMI’s identifies and selects the potential needy women and provides entrepreneurship training. This program enhances women’s ability to start, build and scale up their businesses and to take leadership to secure their socio-economic rights. This program enables them to improve their living conations and address household poverty, hunger, starvation and economic instability in the families.

Skill Development

To strengthen and promote the role of young women and girls as positive actors of change and to build community resilience and cooperation, DMI focuses more on building the skills and capacities through a short term vocational training. This short term courses equips them in tailoring and catering skills to generate income for their families to address poverty and economic pressures. It also prevents them from various forms of exploitations in PNG.

Child Development

DMI promotes preschools and informal community schools for the rural children in order to address the education needs of those vulnerable children. DMI ensures that all children have access to formal education through this preschool and informal school structures. This program supports the rural poor children with educational kit and study materials and mainstreams them into formal education in PNG. Children are mobilised to form children parliaments in order to enhance their self-confidence and practice their leadership skills.Children are aware of their rights and able to address their issues through Children Parliament approach.
